Where can you find Krispy Kreamier, PBJ Sandwich and Elvis Lives Ice Cream? You'll find all three at the only Georgia spot that Thrillist includes in its list of the 31 Best Ice Cream Shops in America.
The original Morelli's Ice Cream is on Moreland Ave. in Atlanta. They've since added another shop in Dunwoody and a We Juice It shop inside the Atlanta airport.
"Super duper, ultra premium, densely textured, homemade ice cream is what Morellis makes," according to its website.
The shop was opened by Donald Sargent and his wife, Clarissa Morelli. Sargent decided to ditch a 10-year career in pharmaceutical sales to do something that he loved with someone that he loved.
Thrillist, the online blog that covers food, drink, travel and entertainment, gave it high marks for its flavors and offered this tidbit, "Try the salted caramel, whose salty-sweet recipe is guarded so closely, it’s known only by the owner and one other staff member."
"We use gelato machines to make our ice cream," Morelli told Atlanta Magazine in 2016. "That way we don't incorporate as much air as American-style ice cream." At the Moreland Avenue store, they sell upwards of 1,000 gallons of salted caramel ice cream every month.
This isn't the first award for the ice cream shop. In 2009, Morellis was named the 4th best ice cream shop in America by Bon Appétit Magazine. The Daily Meal named it as one of the 12 Best Ice Cream Parlors in America.
Other flavors on the menu include coconut jalapeno, blueberry corncake, smooth monkey, cookie monster and red raspberry Coke.
