The Athens-Clarke County Central Services Department is currently seeking public input about a proposed public restroom facility in downtown Athens. An online survey for public feedback is open through June 15 at www.accgov.com/surveys.

The Mayor and Commission are considering the addition of a public restroom near the College Avenue Parking Deck in downtown Athens. During the Mayor and Commission Work Session on January 12, 2021, the ACCGov Central Services Department presented options for a public restroom in the area.

Staff recommended the Portland Loo, which is a single public toilet developed for use in urban environments. The preferred location is near the College Avenue parking deck and Washington Street.

The purpose of the survey is to learn about preferences for a downtown restroom so these preferences can factor into final design considerations.

A video of the January 12, 2021 Work Session presentation and discussion of the proposed public restroom facility is available online on the ACCGov YouTube page at www.youtube.com/accgov or linked on the downtown public restroom survey. The survey also provides images of the proposed facility, proposed location, and three concept options under consideration.
