Jackson Co Sheriff’s Office looks for bogus deputy

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was, at last report, still trying to track down a man who is impersonating a Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy. The latest incident involved the bogus law enforcement officer stopping a car on Highway 129 near Arcade.

We would like to make all citizens aware of an individual impersonating a deputy within Jackson and possibly Dawson and Hall Counties. Please report any information or suspicious behavior to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. For EMERGENCIES dial 911, for non-emergencies call 706-367-8718.

“We urge our citizens to please exercise caution and be vigilant if being stopped. It is very unlikely that a patrol car with a single dash mounted strobe light should be attempting to stop you and would automatically raise suspicion.

After comparing reports in the above counties, it could possibly be a dark older model sedan with the above mentioned single strobe light on the dash. (Taurus, Crown Vic, Caprice or Impala) .

On March 31, 2020, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a subject impersonating a Deputy Sheriff. The suspect was described as an older white male driving an older tan or brown Chevrolet Caprice or Impala with a blue light on the dash. The subject had conducted an illegal traffic stop on a vehicle on Hwy.129 in the Redstone area. The male was described as wearing brown pants, tan shirt w/ badge, and identified himself as a Jackson County Deputy Sheriff. Be advised that we do not have any Chevrolet patrol vehicles at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens are encouraged to notify their local law enforcement agencies of any suspicious persons, crimes or other relevant information by calling 911 or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 367-8718.
