CHICAGO — A group of eight people were injured by gunfire early Sunday morning after a car pulled up and the occupants started shooting at them, investigators said.
Chicago police and fire officials said six men and two women were injured around 4 a.m. in the Burnside neighborhood of Chicago after a silver sedan pulled up and two people started shooting at the group, WGN reported.
Investigators said a 33-year-old man was shot in the chest, WLS reported. A 28-year-old man was shot in the leg. One 31-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and another 31-year-old man was shot in the back of the leg. Two other male victims, aged 28 and 29, were both shot in the back.
A 32-year-old woman’s head was grazed by a bullet. A 38-year-old woman was shot in the leg.
All of the victims were taken to hospitals, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Six of them were in critical condition and two others were in good condition. It is unclear which victims were in what condition. None of their identities have been released.
No other suspect information has been released. No one is in custody.
Police are investigating.
“For any individual to come up and discharge their weapon, you know they’re wrong,” community activist Andrew Holmes told WLS at the scene of the shooting. “So, hopefully people will start opening up their mouths, start giving the detectives the information and start pointing those individuals out because once they stay quiet, this wheel continues to turn with gun violence.”
